Berry picking is one of my favourite pastimes in Vancouver, and it's almost time. I picked my first wild blueberry yesterday on the North Shore. Blackberries, wild blueberries (on cypress or mt. seymour), thimbleberry, huckleberry and salmonberry are a few of the tasty wild edibles
that you can safely eat.
Here are some poisonous berries you may see while picking edibles that are good to know about. Twinberry (Lonicera involucrata, pictured) is a common plant that has a black berry that could be confused with a black huckleberry or blueberry as it grows in the same environment.
Wine of the month
Our sommelier recommends:
Culmina R&D, Rose 2018
If you haven't had it yet grab a bottle at any BC liquor store. A blend of Bordeaux varietals that tastes like bottled sunshine, dry in style but packed with juicy red fruit.
