Forager's Report
Hedgehog mushrooms are starting to peak out of the ground in the coastal mountains. Has anyone seen any yet? They are a good beginner mushroom with distinctive features that make them simple to identify. Here's a few tips....
ID Tips
- Fine finger like projections hang down from the bottom of the
cap like 'teeth'
- White or cream in colour inside and out, staining ochre in colour when cut
- Firm mushroom
- Medium size at maturity
- Growing on the ground near Sitka spruce frequently
