Hi , channel your inner hound next time you're in the forest.  Chanterelles, lobster mushroom and matsutake are three mushrooms that can have strong and distinctive aromas. So... yes:)  Chanterelle aroma is a bit like apricoty-pumpkin, matsutake like spicy-earthy and lobster mushrooms have a seafood note as they age. Each person has a different rainbow of scents that a particular mushroom may hint at.  There are no wrong answers when it comes to smell. I find, if you cook with them you will eventually be able to identify them blindfolded.  Memory is very tied to scent so you will remember the mushrooms more easily too.  It's a very helpful skill to any one that would like to forage for them.  I can smell a matsutake in the forest before I see them sometimes.  Learn helpful tips and tricks to finding and safely identifying wild mushroom on one of our foraging classes this fall, details below...
