Swallow Tail Culinary Adventures

Is a kid you know really excited about food and cooking? Do they want to take a close look behind the scenes of a pop-up restaurant and learn from a real chef?  Here's their chance!


Chef Selma van Halder professional cooking instructor, chef and owner of Fare Kitchen Literacy hosts an evening at the Swallow Tail secret supper club teaching kids what it takes to serve a high end six course dinner to 30 guests. 

An afternoon filled with discovering ingredients and learning new kitchen skills, food preparation, table setting, server training, and hosting. There will be different roles, back and front of house opportunities, everything from table decor to proper "mise en place" for kids that want to learn to cook.

Each student (11-16 years old) can invite up to 3 people (family or friends) for the dinner.  These guests will come in at 5:30pm, to enjoy the dinner the kids created. The kids will run the dinner like a real restaurant service with guidance from the Swallow Tail chef team; serving, cooking, socializing and sharing their knowledge about the food served. The only difference is that they get to sit down with their guests and enjoy the food with them! 

The menu theme will be Italy meets BC, some of the food cooked right outside in the cob oven.

We're only taking 8 students, so book fast!

Tickets: Six courses + cocktail - 75 (for each guest or student), students are $59
Guests are invited to Chef Robin's underground supper club at a secret house in Vancouver.  Address to be given upon booking. Long table style dining.  Byo drinks.

Winner of Chopped Canada, sous chef to Gary Rhodes in London, Chef Valentino Pereira is our guest chef at the secret supper club.  He will create a fabulous  six course menu of modern Indian delicacies for us. This is a plated fine dining dinner featuring the spices and flavours of Goan cuisine (Western Indian) using modern French cooking techniques.
Our sommelier will be creating a themed greeting cocktail for your arrival, but bring your own beer or wine for the rest of the evening.

Byob, we'd recommend riesling (dry or off dry) to go with Indian food or your favourite low alcohol white wine as to not clash with the spices.
